Week 12: Jan. 29 to Feb. 4, 2018 in Puerto Rico

Giraldo and Bozeman are remaining in Puerto Rico this week to continue outreach initiatives on behalf of the USW SERTs. They are following up with contacts while also reaching out to new organizations, handing out National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences resources and scheduling training. The SERTs, with the help of USW District 4 and Chip Hughes, program director for the NIEHS Working Training Program (WTP), scheduled multiple training sessions in February on mold awareness, resiliency and even another train-the-trainer course.

Towards the end of the week, the SERTs visited multiple different locations to leave flyers for upcoming health, safety and environmental training sessions along with NIEHS booklets. The locations included a local newspaper, radio station, consulate, library and church. They also visited a new town where they distributed water filters and house donations, courtesy of USW locals in Puerto Rico. The SERTs handed out more NIEHS booklets and received the opportunity to talk directly with more community members about health and safety.
